Many Christians were torn between what was being told in the book and their belief system. I was one of those. My son, who is a Youth Minister, told me that The Law of Attraction did not exist.
Does something not exist because we don't see it or feel it or touch it? Does gravity not exist? Does electricity not exist? Does the Holy Spirit not exist? We see the effects therefore why wouldn't they exist. When we have a magnitude of evidence about something, the more certainty we assign to it; when there is enough evidence, we call the information a fact, even if it isn't 100% certain, or fully understood. Why challenge the existence of The Law of Attraction? I think it is because it could cause a collapse of many belief systems that are currently in place and are limiting to our lives. For me it has strengthened my belief.
I had heard of the LOA and I knew its basic premise but I was not for or against the idea. I was forced to read "The Secret" by my good friend Debra: "Bev you got to read it." I mean this literally. She bought me a copy of the book and we sat down to read together. It opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. I began to devour books and information on the Internet. I began to ask questions that I had never asked before and the answers came from many different and surprising directions.
The most amazing thing was that I began to review my life for signs that LOA was indeed in force. According to the books, it is in force whether you believe or not. As I began my retrospective journey, I realized that it was true. Yes, I know that we can find anything that we want if we look hard enough. I didn't look hard. I just remembered significant episodes in my life. Let me share one with you.
When I was a freshman in college (a long time ago), the coat style of the day was a parka. They were either short or 3/4 length. I wanted one because everyone had one. I didn't dare ask my parents because they were struggling to pay for me to be in a private college in West Virginia. One day I went to pick up my mail at the student union and there was a note in my mailbox that I had a package. Now as all college students know a package means a care package from home. I was ready for one. I got the box but it was light in weight and it was not from my Mother. It was from my neighbor. I took it back to my dorm and opened it. I screamed. I cried. I was astonished. There in the box was a pink parka. Yes, a beautiful pink parka. I kept asking everyone I showed it to, "How did she know? Why would she send this to me? I have a great coat." I never asked her why she sent it. I sent her a most heartfelt thank you note.
Today, I know that I asked for it in such a way that God put it into Miss Grace's heart to send me that coat. I had the desire and the belief that I could get such a coat. I was working on campus and putting money away. I never thought that the Universe would answer my desire mainly because I didn't believe that I could ask for something so selfish and receive.
I have more examples of people and things showing up in my life at the right time. I also have examples of when they didn't show up. However even before I started this journey, I recognized that when I didn't get something, it was always for my good. I didn't get a specific job and I was upset; however later I found that the people in the position got laid off. I would have been one of them. I later got the job I really wanted; in a wonderful location; with better pay and I never got laid off.
Confusion about what is and what isn't; what is fact and what is fiction is constantly being brought to the attention of this world and our universe. Christians and other religious people can become conflicted as they read books about the LOA. This conflict had to be resolved for me via the scriptures and it has. Let me share the first of many with you.
After I share this passage with you, I want you to take the time to think about what it says and how it can have an impact on your life and that of others.
Matthew 7:7-11
"Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 9Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? 10Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? 11If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"
Begin by asking.
